Welcome to Whiskey Creek Steakhouse!
The building
you sit in today was Keyports first
Merchantile in 1927.
One of The photos on the back
wall shows the building as that in
1928.
Six years after that picture
was taken, the original owner turned
the Merchantile into a tavern simply
known as the Keyport Tavern.
A photo to the right of the
fireplace shows the taverns inside
in 1934.
Story has it he was quite a
gambler and lost and re-won the
tavern on several occasions.
The Tavern was renamed the
Torpedo Shop by the 3rd owner who
was an ex-navy diver.
The business
was bought from the 4th owner in
January 1993 and operated as a
tavern until January 1995 when the
present owners transformed the then
60 year old tavern to a family
restaurant.
The old juke box used to sit
on the pedestal that now is the
fireplace.
All the rocks in the
fireplace wall came from Whiskey
Creek Beach, which is northwest of
Port Angeles.
All the hides and mounts as
well as other decorations were given
to the owners to help create a
rustic mountain cabin feel.
The beautiful back bar was
built in Europe in 1893 and came
around the Cape.
It was originally placed in
an Apothecary in Ballard and moved
here in 1934.
There is a hand painted sign
above the steer head that states:
“No Alcoholic Beverages Allowed on
Premise”.
It was placed there during
prohibition.
The present owners fashioned
the business after favorite
restaurants of theirs in Dallas,
Texas and Tucson, Arizona.
Their
philosophy is to provide great food
with friendly faces and great
service; all at comfortable prices. Give
us your ideas by being sure to fill
out a comment card. We hope that
you will come and enjoy this unique
building, caring staff, & exciting
foods!
